The Asus Eee Pad Slider is now up for pre-order in the US. The Slider is a 10 inch Android tablet with a slide-out keyboard. Unlike the Eee Pad Transformer which has a detachable keyboard, the Slider comes standard with its keyboard which will hide itself behind the display when you are not using it.

The Eee Pad Slider was introduced at CES in January. It has more or less the same specifications as the Transformer. Both models have 10 inch HD displays and 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processors. They also run the same operating system – Android 3.2.

While you can pick up the Transformer for just $400, you will need to shell out an extra $150 for the keyboard dock. The Slider together with its keyboard is available for $479. On the other hand, the keyboard dock on the Transformer has a battery of its own. The Slider keyboard is merely a keyboard.

There is still no launch-date, but Amazon is taking pre-orders for the 16GB model for $479. The 32GB model runs $579.

Earlier this year Apple came forth to announce that they would be refreshing their critically acclaimed MacBook Pro line up. This update would bring things such as the high-speed Thunderbolt I/O port and newer processors. However, it seems that Apple may be looking to surprise us with a second 2011 refresh towards the end of the year.

Reports are coming to us from AppleInsider that say Apple will be coming forth later this year to announce new MacBook Pros that incorporate Intel’s latest Core i5 and i7 processors. Fret not though as these same sources suggest that the general form factor and everything else will remain constant meaning the need to upgrade won’t be too undying. However, for those of you on the market for a new MacBook Pro you may want to hold off until later this year before picking one up.

We’ll keep you posted as more information is made known to confirm or deny these rumors.

AMD's Bulldozer CPU is on the verge of being released. Sever markets will see the CPU soon, while desktop customers will have to wait until Q4 (which is only a month away at this point). No one likes to ship a delayed part, but if you do your job right the part that follows should arrive in a timely fashion. The follow-on to Bulldozer is called Piledriver and it will make its debut with AMD's Trinity APU in 2012.

Trinity is a higher end successor to Llano. It will integrate 2 – 4 Piledriver cores and feature some sort of a Radeon GPU on-die. Performance across the board will be higher than Llano. Piledriver should offer better performance per clock vs. Bulldozer, but Trinity won't be targeted at the same high-end market that AMD's FX series based on Bulldozer will address. Presumably we'll see a Piledriver based FX CPU at some point down the road. AMD indicated that Trinity was a few months away, implying an early 2012 launch.

To show the health of Trinity silicon, AMD showed it running Deus Ex in a suite a block away from IDF. The Trinity demo was done in a generic notebook chassis. We weren't allowed to benchmark the APU unfortunately. You can check out the demo in the video below:

If AMD can deliver Trinity in early 2012 and continue to execute beyond it, we may finally see the end of AMD's CPU woes. The company needs to put out a solid design and improve on it regularly. With Trinity following Bulldozer so closely, AMD may be doing just that.

The HP Touchpad's troubled saga continues: the company's European arm is now offering partial refunds to anyone who brought the tablet at anything other than the bargain-basement fire sale price. The refund is for the difference between that clearance price and the price that the buyer originally paid, and the same courtesy is also being extended to buyers of the Pre3 smartphone, which never made it to the US.

Some retailers, like Best Buy in the US, have already been offering similar partial refunds to anyone who bought the Touchpad before HP pulled the plug, but others (including Amazon) have referred unhappy buyers to HP itself. Ths gesture should help to ameliorate any remaining ill will generated by the Touchpad and Pre3's quick discontinuation.

At this time, there's no word on whether HP is planning on extending this offer to the US or other territories.

In addition to the SSD 710 series, Intel also disclosed two more SSDs codenamed: Cherryville and Hawley Creek. Cherryville is Intel's next 6Gbps SATA drive, replacing the SSD 510 and using Intel's 25nm MLC NAND. No word on whether or not it will use a 3rd party controller or Intel's own design. Intel claims Cherryville will be the fastest SSD on the market when it is introduced later this year.

Hawley Creek is the replacement for Larson Creek, Intel's SSD for use with Z68 caching systems. Hawley Creek will switch to 25nm MLC NAND and hopefully address pricing as well.
